Comic Book Review – Chew #52

November 25, 2015 by Jessie Robertson

Jessie Robertson reviews Chew #52…

Savoy gets closer to the truth.

We are now in the second to last Chew storyline, “The Last Suppers” and we see Savoy’s backstory! (a snippet) Chu and Savoy working together! (never going to happen). The Pope is now an Egg-Man! (this does happen.)

Part 2 of the Last Suppers is….well…a lot more setup leading into where this storyline is going. Chu and Colby are back as a team and they seem to fall right into rhythm with each other, investigating the disappearance of a once FDA Agent, known Cognominitus (can read a menu in any language). Once they track him down, we find Savoy there and you see he is just a man on a mission; so the friction between himself and Chu can be categorized as Savoy doing what he must to finish what he started, which is to bring down the whole chicken-outlawing conspiracy. We’re treated to a wonderful Chew-style montage of these two bitter enemies running into each other in the line of duty, including the Cereal Box Exorcism (featuring altered versions of Count Chocula, Boo Berry and Frankenberry). Classic Chew.

Not a lot comes to light but we do get an Amelia cameo and see one of the many mottos of the FDA during a briefing: “Strength Through Throat Punches.”

My favorite background joke – a sign on the airplane Chu and Colby are jumping out of – “Seatbelts save Lives – Unless the Plane crashes”

Rating: 7/10
