Vin Diesel and Brian Tyler discuss Charlize Theron’s Fast & Furious 8 character

June 10, 2016 by admin

With a little less than a year now to the world wide release of the eighth title in the Fast and Furious franchise, interviews and press have begun to reveal more information about the first entry in the series since the death of star Paul Walker. This week’s comments, made to Entertainment Weekly, focus mostly on the new female villain that Charlize Theron plays, Cipher.

“It’s like a siren kind of thing,” states Brian Tyler, composer of the last four films in the Fast and Furious franchise. “There’s no question the havoc and villainy she brings [but] you’re attracted to it. There’s something where you can kind of see yourself in this villain that makes it more disturbing and, at the same time, more interesting. It’s the sympathetic villains, in a way, who really get under your skin. In a much different way, but like how Anthony Hopkins did Hannibal Lecter, where you like him, but you’re like, ‘Wait, why am I doing that? I shouldn’t be rooting for this person.’ She has that ability to do that. She’s just a fantastic actor.”

Vin Diesel, lead actor and executive producer on Fast 8, took the time to also quickly comment on Charlize through his own Facebook page: “Wait until you meet Cipher. Of all her films you have never seen this character [Theron] has created… she has truly brought her A game to this saga and we are all grateful for it.”

F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) is directing Fast & Furious 8, with Vin Diesel joined in the cast by Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Eva Mendes, Lucas Black, Nathalie Emmanuel, Kurt Russell, Kristofer Hivju, Scott Eastwood and Charlize Theron. It is set for release on April 14th 2017, followed by Fast & Furious 9 on April 19th 2019 and Fast & Furious 10 on April 2nd 2021.
