With the action sequel G.I. Joe: Retaliation shrugging off a nine-month delay and less-than-impressive reviews to amass a healthy $132 million opening at the global box office this past weekend, Paramount Pictures has wasted little time in giving the go-ahead for more adventures, with Variety reporting that the studio has said “Yo Joe!” to GI. Joe 3.
The Jon M. Chu-directed sequel – which features the likes of Dwayne Johnson (Fast & Furious 6), Bruce Willis (A Good Day to Die Hard) and Adrianne Palicki (Red Dawn) alongside G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra stars Channing Tatum, Ray Park and Lee Byung-hun – is already in the black, having been produced for $130 million. Retaliation now looks likely to go on to overtake the $303 million worldwide gross of its predecessor, which was released back in 2009.
