Comic Book Review – Dungeons & Dragons: Cutter #3

June 11, 2013 by admin

Villordsutch reviews Dungeons & Dragons: Cutter #3…

“On the run! Doum’ielle–daughter of the Drow renegade Tos’un Armgo–the legendary veteran of battles against the Kingdom of Many-Arrows–now weilds the sentient sword Khazid’hea. But will that protect her from the rage of the Moon Elves”

I dislike being harsh.  I know sometimes I am very harsh, but it isn’t a thing I like to do.  As you may now be thinking ‘this review isn’t going to be overly full of praise’ I shall start with a positive before dropping right into what’s wrong here.

The Positive

David Baldeon’s (X-Men: Legacy, Captain America) artwork looks good, the battle scenes are not confusing and the characters look fine (if not a bit cartoony on occasion), which added to the colouring by David Garcia Cruz (TV Heroes Vs Zombies!!!) makes this comic look appealing.

The Negative

I’m looking at you two, Geno (The Legend of Drizzt) and R.A. Salvatore (The Legend of Drizzt & Spooks).  I read through this comic so quickly I thought I missed a page.  I went back to page 1 and started again.  This comic is severely lacking in any substance to be called a story.  It could be used more as a portfolio for Baldeon and Cruz, as you are treated more to their artwork with panels of our protagonist running, or fighting rather than anything that moves the story forward.  Perhaps if this was clumped together as graphic novel these pages would be forgiven, but as an off the shelf purchase it isn’t.

If you’re a casual comic buyer and the good looking cover is appealing to you, think twice.  However, if you’re an avid collector and you need this issue but you are in a hurry today, then the protagonist runs, fights and the art looks good. There I’ve saved you five minutes so you can read another comic, and you can thank me with dirty five pound (sterling) notes.
