Marvel wants a female superhero movie, Katee Sackhoff teases Captain Marvel role

September 6, 2013 by admin

Since the failure of Catwoman and Elektra, studios appear to be reluctant to give the green light to another female superhero movie. However, it seems that Marvel Studios are aware of the need to diversify the MCU and Marvel’s Louis D’Esposito, director of the latest One-Shot Agent Carter, has been speaking about the possibility of a female-led superhero movie featuring as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“There’s obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero,” D’Esposito told Coming Soon. “We have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow [Scarlett Johansson] to Pepper Potts [Gwyneth Paltrow] to Peggy Carter [Hayley Atwell] and you never know. Maybe there’s an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?”

D’Esposito then went on to explain that at this point in time, it’s simply a matter of being able to fit it into the studio’s hectic schedule, what with Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers: Age of Ultron and Ant-Man all on the horizon: “It’s hard because we have a small group at Marvel. We do two films a year. To get those two films done and to do them right takes a lot of work and manpower. And female-power, obviously. To add a third film and to just put it in the slate right now is difficult. We have these next three, four, five films coming out and that’s what we’re really concentrating on.”

Meanwhile, speaking to The Schmoes Know Podcast, Battlestar Galactica and Riddick star Katee Sackhoff has hinted at a possible turn as Carol Danvers, stating that “there’s been some stuff going on” between her and Marvel and “a lot of checking of availability for the first quarter of next year.” So, does that mean Captain Marvel could be joining Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch as part of The Avengers: Age of Ultron?

Which female Marvel hero would you like to see getting their own movie? Let us know in the comments below….
