Alan Taylor discusses Thor: The Dark World’s post-credits scene

November 15, 2013 by admin

Warning: Thor: The Dark World spoilers to follow….

During an interview with Slash Film, Thor: Dark World director Alan Taylor has explained why the final Thor and Jane kiss scene was shown after the credits and not with the rest of the movie.

“It’s funny. We agonized for a long time. We thought the movie was about whether they got together or not. I think it came down shockingly late in the process that it felt sort of implicit that they were going to be together. So I think at the point the reveal of…. Who you have on the throne… was such a jarring thing that you couldn’t follow anything else. So just the process, the finishing of Jane and Thor, wound up being a feel-good moment, but not a big story moment. The feeling was that instead of explaining why they were together, we just let them be together and then the final, final shot was one of my favorites. It was very late in the game, too.”

Alan Taylor seems like he knows what he’s doing, and I hope that there’s a director’s cut of Thor: The Dark World that would add in all the extra footage that was left on the cutting room floor. I also wonder if this was part of the alleged final cut dispute, but ultimately I agree with the decision not to follow up a dark reveal with something so light-hearted. Tell us in the comments what you thought about the final scene and its placement after the credits…

Thor: The Dark World is out now with Taylor directing a cast that include Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Natalie Portman (Jane Foster), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Anthony Hopkins (Odin), Rene Russo (Frigga), Stellan Skarsgård (Erik Selvig), Idris Elba (Heimdall), Ray Stevenson, (Volstagg), Zachary Levi (Fandral), Kat Dennings (Darcy Lewis), Jaimie Alexander (Lady Sif), Tadanobu Asano (Hogun), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Algrim the Strong / Kurse) and Christopher Eccleston (Malekith the Accursed).
