Positive reactions to Gotham following the pilot sneak preview

June 16, 2014 by admin

A lucky few have seen the pilot for the anticipated pre-Batman TV show Gotham and the reaction has been very, very positive.

Several comments have described the show as “gorgeous” and “brilliantly cast”.

TV Equals’ Sandrine Sahakians said the show is “fantastic… the trailers don’t do it justice… definitely top of my list this fall.”

The only really “negative” comments have come from Hitfix’s Daniel Fienberg who wrote on Twitter, “I can’t shake the feeling there are a lot of unfulfillable promises in Gotham. But… good pilot”. He also added, “it’s well-cast, top to bottom, and the production values play higher in context than they do in the trailer”.

Collider’s Christina Radish also tweeted “Rest assured, Gotham is everything that you want Gotham to be” before giving praise to Robin Lord Taylor’s performance as Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin.

In fact, much of the praise has been given to Taylor’s Cobblepot. MTV suggested the show should be renamed Penguin: Origins. They also added Sean Pertwee’s Alfred is straight out of Geoff Johns’ Batman: Earth One.

MTV also noted that Gotham, “isn’t a superhero show. If anything, it’s closer to a police procedural with some comic book trappings”

Gotham is set to get underway on Monday evenings on FOX in the Fall with a cast that includes Ben McKenzie (Southland) as Detective Gordon, Sean Pertwee (Elementary) as Alfred Pennyworth, Donal Logue (Sons of Anarchy) as Harvey Bullock, newcomer Camren Bicondova as Selina Kyle, David Mazouz (Touch) as Bruce Wayne, Robin Lord Taylor (Another Earth) as Oswald Cobblepot, Cory Michael Smith (Olive Kitteridge) as Edward Nygma, Jada Pinkett Smith (The Matrix) as Fish Mooney, Zabryna Guevara (The Guilt Trip) as Detective Essen, Victoria Cartagena (Salt) as Renee Montoya, Andrew Stewart Jones (The Tomorrow People) as Crispus Allen, Erin Richards (Being Human) as Barbara Kean and Drew Powell (Malcolm in the Middle) as Butch Gilzean.
