Is Terminator: Genesis now simply titled Terminator?

June 30, 2014 by James Garcia

According to Ain’t It Cool News, Alan Taylor’s Terminator: Genesis has undergone a title change, and will simply drop the “Genesis” subtitle and go by Terminator. Apparently, several of their sources claim that the film’s licensing, merchandise, and toys that tie into the film are being branded as Terminator tie-ins, with Genesis nowhere to be found.

Come to think of it, Genesis was never officially announced as the movie title, so perhaps it’s been called Terminator this whole time and we just didn’t know it. The change certainly brings attention to its reboot status, and implies that it will have close ties to the first film in the franchise, The Terminator.

AICN also suggests that we’ll be seeing a bit of the film at Comic-Con this year, and that “there’s a few groovy surprises they might spill. I know because people are keeping them from me and teasing me about it.”

What do you think of the new movie title? Is it too simple, or just simple enough for this sequel/relaunch/reboot hybrid? Let us know in the comments.

Directed by Alan Taylor (Game of Thrones, Thor: The Dark World), Terminator stars Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Jason Clarke (no relation, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Jai Courtney (A Good Day to Die Hard), Matt Smith (Doctor Who), J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man), Courtney B. Vance (Law & Order: Criminal Intent), Byung-hun Lee (G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Dayo Okeniyi (The Hunger Games), Michael Gladis (Mad Men), Sandrine Holt (House of Cards) and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film hits theaters on July 1st, 2015.
