Joss Whedon says there are four prominent female roles in Avengers: Age of Ultron

July 25, 2014 by James Garcia

We’ve been hearing for quite some time now that Carol Danvers, a.k.a Captain Marvel a.k.a. Ms. Marvel would be making her big screen debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but don’t have much information to back it up. The folks over at Hey U Guys tried their hardest to get Joss Whedon to spill the beans about her possible appearance, with no luck; but they did manage to get an interesting quote from him that could help propel the Ms. Marvel rumors even further.

According to Whedon, there are four prominent females roles “at the center” of Age of Ultron. Off the top of my head I can name three female characters confirmed to appear: Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, and Maria Hill. So, who’s the fourth?

We recently heard that Hayley Atwell would be reprising her role as Peggy Carter from the Captain America films, but don’t know how substantial that role will be. Age of Ultron will likely deal with some of SHIELD’s history, judging by the way The Winter Soldier ended, and as a founding member of the organization Peggy fits into that well.

Then again, how big would Ms. Marvel’s role be if she were in Age of Ultron? Surely if it was a major one we would have gotten some kind of casting info or more substantial rumors… But then again, in an age where every director and movie studio is desperately trying to keep all things secret for as long as humanly possible, you never know what may manage to stay hidden.

What do you think, could we see Ms. Marvel in Avengers: Age of Ultron? Sound off in the comments below.

Avengers: Age of Ultron hits theaters on May 1, 2015.
