Mark Ruffalo talks Planet Hulk, says “you need more Banner”

July 1, 2014 by Gary Collinson

Back in February of 2013, Latino-Review claimed that the upcoming Avengers sequel would see the Hulk blasted into space, setting up an adaptation of Planet Hulk for The Incredible Hulk 2 in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, culminating with World War Hulk for The Avengers 3. As it happened, this came about when everyone thought Earth’s Mightiest Heroes would be squaring off against Thanos in the then-untitled Avengers: Age of Ultron rather than Avengers 3, and despite the fact that both Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige have since denied the report, it seems this is the rumour that just refuses to die.

Despite the repeated denials about Planet Hulk, there is a sense that Mark Ruffalo’s Green Goliath could find himself headlining another solo movie in the not-too-distant future (particularly if his turn in Age of Ultron is as well received as it was in The Avengers), but it seems that Ruffalo shares the same opinion as Kevin Feige, with the actor telling MTV News (via CBM) that: “I don’t think [Planet Hulk] is the way to go. I think you need more Banner. The whole thing is just him as Hulk, on a planet, fighting other gladiators.”

Meanwhile, HitFix is reporting some potential spoilers about Avengers: Age of Ultron, which suggests that the original report may not have been that far from the truth… click here if you want to find out more.

Would you like to see The Hulk back in another solo movie, and is Ruffalo right about avoiding the Planet Hulk storyline? Let us know your thoughts…
