Peyton Reed talks about Ant-Man, confirms script isn’t finished

July 30, 2014 by Luke Owen

Perhaps one of the most shocking tidbits of the troubled Ant-Man from last weekend’s Comic-Con (read the footage report here) was that the script still wasn’t ready. But its new director Peyton Reed (Yes Man) is still very optimisitc about the project since taking over from fan-favourite Edgar Wright (The World’s End).

In an interview with Collider Reed confirmed the script wasn’t ready but production was moving forward, “We’re obviously deep into preparation and still making some script changes, but the script is terrific”.

When asked about making an Ant-Man movie that will fit comfortably in the Marvel Universe, Reed said, “It just feels like that’s what they do as movies. It reflects what they did in the comics. I always loved as a kid reading Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four would show up … it was all about that larger universe”.

Although not finished, Reed went on to praise Adam McKay (Step Brothers) and his work on the script. “Adam is an insane comics fan, and a Marvel fan,” he said. “He’s bringing all of that to the movie”

Also announced at Comic-Con was that Corey Stoll would be playing Yellowjacket, but when asked if there was another villain in the mix, Reed simply said, “it depends on how you define villain”.

So perhaps Hank Pym might be taking on the Yellowjacket role after all…

Ant-Man is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17th, 2015, with a cast that includes Paul Rudd (Anchorman) as Scott Lang, Michael Douglas (Wall Street) as Hank Pym, Corey Stoll (House of Cards) as Darren Cross / Yellowjacket, Evangeline Lilly (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Hope Van Dyne with David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight) and Michael Pena (Cowboys & Aliens) in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
