UPDATE: Scott Adkins and Tony Jaa join Kickboxer reboot

August 7, 2014 by Gary Collinson

The upcoming reboot of the 1989 Jean-Claude Van Damme vehicle Kickboxer has added a couple of martial arts experts to its cast, with Scott Adkins (The Legend of Hercules) and Tony Jaa (Ong-Bak) signing on to appear in the new film.

The remake is being directed by Stephen Fung (Tai Chi Zero) and will follow Kurt Sloan – played by Alain Moussi (X-Men: Days of Future Past) – as he travels to Thailand to avenge the death of his brother at the hands of Tong Po, who will be played by Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy). Also featuring in the cast is George St-Pierre (Captain America: The Winter Soldier).

“Kickboxer will display a style of acrobatic, rapid-fire martial arts action that Scott Adkins is increasingly becoming synonymous with,” said Brian O’Shea, CEO of The Exchange. “Along with Tony Jaa, Kickboxer has compiled a talented cast to push the boundaries of the martial arts form.”

UPDATE: We’ve heard from Tony Jaa that the press release was a little premature, and that discussions are currently ongoing and yet to be finalised.

What do you make of the cast of the Kickboxer reboot so far?
