Rachael Taylor cast as Hellcat in A.K.A. Jessica Jones

January 30, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Following the announcement that former Doctor Who star David Tennant would be taking on the role of The Purple Man in Netflix and Marvel’s A.K.A. Jessica Jones, they’ve now announced today that Rachael Taylor (Transformers) has been cast as Patsy Walker, aka Hellcat.

The character of Patsy Walker debuted all the way back in 1944 as part of Miss America Magazine #2, but would become part of the Marvel 616 Universe when she showed up in the pages of Fantastic Four Annual #3 in 1965. She would then be rebranded a decade later as the Avenger and superhero Hellcat. In the show, she will be rebranded again as Patricia “Trish” Walker.

“Trish is a syndicated radio talk show host, former model and child TV star known to her adoring fans as “Patsy” Walker,” Marvel.com writes. “As Jessica Jones’ closest friend, Trish helps her embark on the most dangerous case of Jessica’s career.”

“Rachael’s ability to embody a character that must balance both the darker and lighter elements of our series will provide a perfect emotional anchor for Jessica Jones,” said Executive Producer Jeph Loeb. “Rachael blew us away with her grounded, humanizing take on Trish, adding yet another layer to the complex, emotional story we’re telling with this series.”

Taylor joins a cast that also includes Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones and Mike Colter as Luke Cage. A.K.A. Jessica Jones is expected to debut exclusively on Netflix next year.
