John Barrowman will return for Arrow season 4

June 22, 2015 by James Garcia

He may have ascended to the role of Ra’s al Ghul at the end of Arrow‘s third season, but that’s not the last we’ll be seeing of Malcolm Merlyn. According to actor John Barrowman himself, Merlyn will return for season 4.

Speaking with audiences at Amazing Las Vegas Comic Con (via ComicBook.com), Barrowman said:

“We start filming in July, season four — I just finalized my deal about a week ago. I’m very excited about going back, I can’t tell you anything because I do know a bit about what’s going to happen. But if you love Malcolm Merlyn, if you love Oliver Queen, if you love Thea Queen, if you love the Canary sisters, and I say that with a bit of a twist and a joke in it, you’re going to love what’s going to happen across the DC world.”

The twist that Barrowman’s referring to is likely the Lazarus Pit, which brought Thea back from the dead and will soon do the same for Sara Lance so that she can suit up as Legends of Tomorrow‘s White Canary. Merlyn warned Oliver that the Pit would have unforeseen side effects (in the comics, it makes you temporarily insane), and while Thea seemed unchanged by season’s end, that may no longer be the case when the show returns this fall.
