SDCC: Ryan Reynolds on the possibility of Deadpool appearing in other X-Men movies

July 10, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Originally published July 10, 2015. Updated March 1, 2020.

As Ryan Reynolds prepares to bring Deadpool to Comic-Con, the actor has been speaking to Screen Rant about the possibility of the Merc with a Mouth popping up in 20th Century Fox’s main X-Men series, or other spinoffs such as the third Wolverine movie.

“It would be kind of hard, wouldn’t it?” states Reynolds. “Because you have a character – let’s say you have a character who knows he’s in a comic book movie, that sort of breaks the fourth wall [and] has a tendency to kind of say people’s real names instead of their characters’ names. How do you introduce that into another universe that…does not do that? So…I don’t know. I’d be curious to say. I’m not saying that’s not going to happen. I don’t know if it’s going to happen. I would love to see that. You have to be very careful about how you do that because you don’t want to do a disservice to any one of these characters that are beloved by everyone.”

SEE ALSO: Ryan Reynolds says Deadpool will be his last superhero role

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is set for release on February 5th 2016 in the UK and February 12th 2016 in the States and sees Ryan Reynolds reprising the title role alongside T.J. Miller (Transformers: Age of Extinction) as Weasel, Morena Baccarin (Gotham) as Copycat, Gina Carano (Fast & Furious 6) as Angel Dust, Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) as Ajax, Andre Tricoteux (Seventh Son) as Colossus and newcomer Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead.
