Spectre soars to £4 million at UK box office on opening night

October 27, 2015 by Tom Beasley

The latest James Bond film Spectre is already flexing its licence to thrill at the UK box office, scoring an impressive £4.1m ($6.3m) on its opening night of release.

Spectre played in more than 600 venues across the UK on Monday, with the first showings kicking off only 15 minutes after the film’s star-studded London premiere.

The fact that the first showings began at 8:15pm meant that most cinemas could only show the film a couple of times, leaving Spectre with little chance of matching Skyfall‘s £6.2m opening day haul.

Distributors Sony will be pleased with this opening salvo for Sam Mendes’ second jaunt as Bond director, even though the film is unlikely to match the impressive $1.1 billion total set by its predecessor.

Spectre, starring Daniel Craig as James Bond, is in UK cinemas now and hits the States on November 6th.

The film also stars Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Lea Seydoux (The Lobster), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Monica Bellucci (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice), Ralph Fiennes (The Grand Budapest Hotel), Ben Whishaw (Paddington), Naomie Harris (Southpaw) and Andrew Scott (Pride).
