Star Wars: The Force Awakens salary details revealed

December 22, 2015 by Gary Collinson

With Star Wars: The Force Awakens having already smashed the global opening weekend record with $529 million by close of play on Sunday, the latest film in the saga is well on its way to becoming one of the biggest movies of all time and will likely challenge James Cameron’s Avatar for the number one spot.

While Disney claws back a huge chunk of its $4 billion investment with its purchase of Lucasfilm, details are emerging as to how much the film’s stars will be taking home, with Harrison Ford said to be getting over fifty times that of the Sequel Trilogy’s new leads.

According to Variety, Ford pocketed an upfront fee of between $10 million and $20 million, although The Daily Mail is claiming his pay cheque goes as high as $25 million, and that’s before his back-end deal for 0.5% of the film’s gross kicks in.

Variety goes on to report that Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were both paid low-seven-figure salaries, with Adam Driver and Oscar Isaac receiving mid-to-high-six-figures, and John Boyega and Daisy Ridley earning between $100,000 and $300,000.

Meanwhile, director J.J. Abrams is said to have been paid $5 million to direct the film, along with a cool 2% of gross earnings.
