Sony shifts Spider-Man and Jumanji release dates, Disney brings Pirates of the Caribbean 5 forward

January 20, 2016 by Gary Collinson

With Disney and Lucasfilm pushing back the release date of Star Wars: Episode VIII from May 26th to December 17th 2017, Sony has responded by reshuffling a couple of its own big blockbuster releases.

The studio’s Jumanji reboot, which was originally slated for December 25th 2017, has now been brought forward to July 28th 2017, shifting as far away from Star Wars as possible.

To make room, Sony has moved up its Spider-Man reboot (in which Disney also has a stake, given that it’s been co-produced with Marvel Studios), with the wall-crawler now set to swing into theaters on July 7th 2017.

Spider-Man would have found itself in competition with another Disney release on the July 7th date in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, were in not for the fact that the Mouse House has now moved the fifth instalment of the franchise forward to May 26th – the date originally earmarked for Episode VIII.
