New Friday the 13th movie will revisit Jason’s origin and feature Pamela Voorhees

June 1, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this month producer Brad Fuller provided an update on the next instalment of the Friday the 13th franchise, stating that they “are on the right track” after numerous delays, and now Fuller has offered up a few more details on the film, revealing that it will revisit the origin of Jason Voorhees – and feature an appearance from his mother.

“[Screenwriter] Aaron Guzikowski’s story has great characters,” states Fuller in an interview with The Reel Word. “You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward. Origin-ish, but it’s an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamela’s there, but it’s a little bit different from what you’ve seen before.”

Meanwhile, Fuller once again dismissed any suggestion that the new film would adopt a found footage style, adding that: “There was a lot of found-footage scripts that they wanted us to make and I was not going to do that because I don’t think that can exist in Jason Voorhees’ world.”

The new Friday the 13th is slated for release on January 13th, 2017 – but don’t be surprised if it gets pushed back again.
