Ben Affleck explains why he chose Deathstroke as the villain for The Batman

October 4, 2016 by Gary Collinson

A few weeks ago, Ben Affleck shared a short piece of test footage featuring Deathstroke, which was followed by confirmation that Slade Wilson will feature as the villain in the solo Batman movie (now confirmed as being titled The Batman), with Joe Manganiello in the role.

During an interview with Collider to promote his new movie The Accountant, Affleck has revealed why he opted for Deathstroke as the nemesis for his Dark Knight:

“He’s a great villain because—I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well. You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52 the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.”

Much like Affleck’s Bruce Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the New 52 version of Slade Wilson is an older, experienced mercenary who has been operating for many years, so there’s certainly plenty of opportunity to explore the parallels between the two characters.
