Tyler Perry scores big and beats Tom Cruise with Boo! A Madea Halloween as it opens to $27 million

October 24, 2016 by admin

Released in the run-up to All Hallow’s Eve, not many people gave Tyler Perry’s Boo! A Madea Halloween a fighting chance as it competed against the Tom Cruise-starring Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and horror prequel Ouija: Origin of Evil, but the comedy spoof beat them both.

Screening in significantly less theatres than both Jack Reacher: Never Go Back and Ouija: Origin of Evil, Boo! A Madea Halloween averaged £12k per screen to earn $27.6 million. It’s the biggest opening for a Madea movie directed by Tyler Perry since 2009’s Madea Goes to Jail. The film also scored an A ranking on CimenaScore, which means a $50-70 million domestic haul is easily within reach. Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection opened to £25 million and earned $66 million overall.

Boo! A Medea Halloween had a budget of $20 million.

In TYLER PERRY’S BOO! A MADEA HALLOWEEN, Madea winds up in the middle of mayhem when she spends a hilarious, haunted Halloween fending off killers, paranormal poltergeists, ghosts, ghouls and zombies while keeping a watchful eye on a group of misbehaving teens.

Boo! A Madea Halloween is out now.
