13 Reasons Why’s Katherine Langford joins sci-fi film Spontaneous

December 13, 2017 by Ricky Church

Fresh off her Golden Globe nomination for her role in 13 Reasons Why, Katherine Langford has been cast in the sci-fi film Spontaneous, according to Deadline. The film is based upon the book of the same name by Aaron Starmer and will be adapted by writer/director Brian Duffield (The Babysitter).

Langford will star as Mara Carlye, a young student whose life changes when the people around her begin spontaneously exploding. Mara and her friends stick together as they await possible spontaneous explosions themselves and wonder if life is worth living if it will just suddenly end with no warning. The synopsis of the book reads:

With all the perfectly lovely young adult novels out there, you decided to check this one out? It’s got spontaneously combusting teenagers in it, dude. Not the slow burning type either. We’re talking the randomly exploding variety. Seniors in high school just walking along, heading to class, whistling Beyoncé, when—WA-BAM!— they’re suddenly dripping off the lockers. Is that really something you’re into?

Spontaneous will be produced by Matt Kaplan and Max Siemers of Awesomeness Films and Nicki Cortese of Jurassic Party Productions. Langford meanwhile will be seen next in Love, Simon and will reprise her role as Hannah Baker in season two of 13 Reasons Why.
