Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes to take on the Halloween franchise?

April 4, 2012 by admin

Not content with rebooting three of the most popular horror series of all-time in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street, it now seems as if Platinum Dunes are to take control of the Halloween franchise, with reports emerging from Bloody Disgusting that Michael Bay’s production company are in talks to pick up producing duties from The Weinstein Company, who initially relaunched the series back in 2007 with director Rob Zombie’s remake and its 2009 sequel, Halloween II.

It had been thought that the Weinsteins would produce a third installment – in 3D, naturally – with screenwriters Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier (My Bloody Valentine, Drive Angry) set to pen the script. However, it now seems that Dimension Films have turned to reboot specialists Platinum Dunes, who are also responsible for remakes of The Amityville Horror and The Hitcher, along with the upcoming Ninja Turtles and The Monster Squad. There’s no word yet on a possible director or screenwriter, while it’s also unclear whether the new film will serve as a sequel to Zombie’s films or take the form of a brand new re-reboot.

Should this come to pass, perhaps we’ll get to see a Freddy vs. Jason vs. Michael Myers showdown one day after all…
