Comic Book Review – What If? Ax4 #4

August 1, 2013 by admin

Robb Ghag reviews What If? AvX #4…

“The biggest event of 2012 is now the biggest miniseries of 2013! We all know what happened to the Avengers and the X-Men? but what if the story had gone differently? The one and only Jimmy Palmiotti brings his signature style to a mind-blowing reinterpretation of a key event in the history of the Marvel Universe.Featuring Magneto, Hope, and every Avenger and X-Man you can imagine!”

And so we reach the final issue in this four-issue series.  It began with such flare and high hopes, and it ends on a relatively mediocre note.

This was one series that for all intents and purposes I would have said was the best thing you could collect the entire summer!  With DC throwing together Trinity War, and Marvel escalating for the release of Infinity, the What If? series was only four issues and should have been wrapped up nicely.

Instead the story seemed fragmented and rushed.  The artwork wasn’t as crisp as it had been in the last issue (for reasons unknown) and the ending was very lacking.

It’s a real shame as after four issues, I feel like I am lacking closure on this storyline because of the way it ended, and the end result of what happened to all the characters.

This isn’t to take away from the previous three issues which were stellar, but with such a great buildup I was hoping for a better pay off.
