AMC and Sony reach a deal for Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul

September 11, 2013 by admin

As Breaking Bad edges ever-closer to its finale AMC and Sony Pictures TV have reached a licensing agreement for the planned spin-off from the acclaimed series centred around Bob Odenkirk’s criminal lawyer Saul Goodman.

Entitled Better Call Saul, the project has been in development for several months now, with Odenkirk first discussing the possibility of a spin-off back in April, and has been devised by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and writer producer Peter Gould.

According to Deadline Better Call Saul is envisioned as a one-hour prequel series focussing on Goodman’s character prior to his involvement with Bryan Cranston’s Walter White, and “is expected to be far less dark than the original series, with more comedy infused into it.” Apparently AMC has placed a full series order pending deals with Gilligan, Gould and Odenkirk, having fought off competition from Netflix for the rights to the spin-off.
