Hugh Jackman says X-Men: Days of Future Past could be his last outing as Wolverine

September 12, 2013 by admin

This year saw Hugh Jackman making his sixth appearance as Logan in The Wolverine, while the actor has already wrapped filming on his seventh outing, reuniting with the majority of X-Men past and present for Bryan Singer’s time-travelling sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is due to arrive in cinemas next year. Jackman is of course the jewel in 20th Century Fox’s X-Men crown and it has been rumoured that he could reprise the role again for the Jeff Wadlow-scripted spin-off X-Force, although – in news which is bound to concern X-Men fans everywhere – the star has now hinted that Days of Future Past could be the last time he dons the adamantium claws.

“It may be the last,” Jackman tells MTV. “It didn’t hit me until three weeks before the end [of shooting X-Men: Days of Future Past], because we promoted The Wolverine and I came back on set with three weeks to go, and that’s when I went, ‘Well, who knows? Maybe there’s no more Wolverine. Maybe this is it. Who knows?’ So I really made the most of those last few weeks. I enjoyed every time I put the claws on. I nicked everything off the set, so Halloween, come to me and I’ll hook you up. I keep saying [X-Men: Days of Future Past] like two movies in one, but with the size of it it’s really three in one. It really is going to blow people away because of the story.”

It is of course completely unimaginable that Fox would drop Wolverine from any future X-Men movies, so you’d have to imagine that the role will remain Jackman’s for as long as he wants it. However, having played the character for the best part of fifteen years now, perhaps he’s thinking it could be time to hang up the claws..?
