Doctor Strange to film in London, set for release July 2016

September 17, 2014 by Luke Owen

It has been rumoured for sometime, but it looks like Marvel will be introducing Doctor Stephen Strange into the Marvel Cinematic Universe with production set to start in May 2015, here in jolly ol’ England.

Screen Daily is reporting that Marvel are in “advanced negotiations” to film Doctor Strange in Pinewood Studios in Sheperton. If all goes to plan, Doctor Strange will land in cinemas on July 8th 2016, which would be two months after Captain America 3.

Marvel have produced several of their previous movies on English shores, including Thor: The Dark World, Captain America, Guardians Of The Galaxy and Avengers: Age Of Ultron and according to Kevin Fiege, it’s due to the superb work force – and also good tax incentives. We at Flickering Myth are not ones to assume, but we’d bet it’s the latter rather than the former.

Doctor Strange will be directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister) and has been written by Jon Spaihts (Prometheus). No word yet on who will take on the role of the Sorcerer Supreme, but if rumours are to be believed it will be Joaquin Phoenix (Her), although names like Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) have been thrown into the mix.
