Rob Liefeld confirms Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and teases Cable

November 3, 2014 by Thomas Roach

Since the release of the Deadpool test footage and the announcement of a Deadpool movie in 2016, many have speculated whether Ryan Reynolds would reprise his role to play the Merc with a Mouth once more. While this is not studio official, it seems that Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld has confirmed the actor for the movie. During a panel at Comikaze this weekend someone asked if Ryan would play Deadpool in the film, to which Liefeld responded:

“Ryan is Deadpool. Look, Ryan Reynolds, he’s gone through that same career arc, the guy is ridiculously talented. He has a huge, huge passion for Deadpool. Deadpool’s not happening, because he was a giant star, they said, ‘Ryan, what do you want to do?’ And he said, ‘Deadpool.’ That’s why it happened. They would have no faith otherwise. That movie is because of his passion. He put together the team.”

Liefeld also teased that the character Cable would appear in a film in the future. However he indicated that it may not be the Deadpool movie in which he first appears: “Cable is awesome. And he will…when he appears on screen, we’re all going to nerdgasm, because he’s coming. They can’t hold him back. He’s coming.”

As of yet we don’t know if or when Cable will appear. Possibly in Deadpool, or maybe even in X-Men:Apocalypse or the X-Force movie, should Fox move ahead with that.

Are you glad that Ryan Reynolds will play Deadpool? Let us know…
