Melissa Benoist cast as Supergirl

January 22, 2015 by Thomas Roach

CBS has found its Supergirl. Melissa Benoist – best known for her role in Glee and recently appearing as Miles Teller’s love interest in the movie Whiplash – has been cast in the title role for the series.

The official synopsis for the show is as follows: “Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.”

Although Supergirl is being produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash), it is unclear if they will exist in the same universe and be able to crossover, given that the other two shows air on The CW.
