Hugh Jackman on Wolverine: “I’ve got to find a way to keep playing him until I die”

February 22, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Last year Hugh Jackman made his seventh outing as the fan favourite mutant Wolverine in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and judging from the star’s latest comments, he’s got no plans to hang up the claws just yet.

“‘I always want to be in better shape than I was for the last one,” Jackman tells Cigar Aficionado (via TV3). “Every time I play Wolverine I want to go further, physically and emotionally. I said to my wife, ‘The moral is that I should never stop playing Wolverine. I’ve got to find a way to keep playing him until I die.’ I know that someday they’ll recast the role with another actor…I’d be happy if the role was eventually recast. It would mean that it had become iconic.”

Jackman will return as Logan in 2017 for an as yet untitled Wolverine sequel alongside director James Mangold, while he’s also expected to be back in the role next year for X-Men: Apocalypse. His involvement is yet to be confirmed, but come on – it’s a Fox X-Men movie, so he’s bound to be in it. Which also means it wouldn’t be too much of a strecth to see him cameoing in the studio’s other 2016 X-Men spin-offs, Deadpool and Gambit.

So, maybe we’ll get to see that Old Man Logan movie one day…
