Matthew Vaughn on Kick-Ass 3 and Hit-Girl prequel

February 11, 2015 by Gary Collinson

During a promotional interview with Joblo ahead of the U.S. release of his latest film Kingsman: The Secret Service, Matthew Vaughn has dropped some news concerning one of his previous comic book adaptations, revealing that he and Mark Millar have plotted a Kick-Ass prequel movie based around the character of Hit-Girl, and that should it prove successful, he’s confident of convincing Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz to return for Kick-Ass 3.

“Do you know what’s going to be next if I do it… we’ve finished plotting it. What we have to do is, we’ve got to do the First Class to the Kick-Ass world. We lost a few fans on Kick-Ass 2. It wasn’t as loved as one would’ve hoped. So we have this idea for a Hit-Girl prequel. It’s a really strong, really simple prequel where I think we can regain the love and the passion. If that happens, I’m pretty sure I can persuade Aaron and Chloe to come back and finish the story of Kick-Ass with Kick-Ass 3. Mark and I have already plotted Hit-Girl. We have to get the script done next. It’s so far out there, you have no idea. I wouldn’t direct. We spoke about it to Gareth Evans a couple of years ago. I’d get someone like that, a really bold, clever director. Most of it is set in the far east.”

Given the lukewarm response to Kick-Ass 2, it was assumed that the sequel had spelled the end of the Kick-Ass franchise on the big screen, with Chloe Grace Moretz even stating that she didn’t think she’d return to the character of Hit-Girl again (of course, she’d surely be too old to play the character in a prequel). Still, would you like to see Moretz and Aaron Taylor-Johnson back to complete the trilogy with Kick-Ass 3? Let us know your thoughts…
