Fast & Furious 7 becomes seventh biggest movie of all time

April 20, 2015 by Gary Collinson

On Friday, Universal Pictures’ Fast & Furous 7 became the fastest movie to gross $1 billion at the global box office, reaching the milestone in just 17 days, and now the latest instalment in the action franchise has climbed to seventh in the list of the highest-grossing releases of all-time.

Having pushed its total to $1.153 billion over the weekend, Furious 7 has overtaken last year’s top earner Transformers: Age of Extinction ($1.091 billion) is fast approaching 2013’s Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion) and Frozen ($1.274 billion).

At this point, it looks likely that the James Wan-directed sequel will surpass Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 ($1.342 billion) and perhaps even The Avengers ($1.519 billion), although its international takings will take a big hit this week as Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron begins rolling out around the globe.
