Paul Feig says Melissa McCarthy will be the leader of his Ghostbusters team; unsure if the Channing Tatum movie will even happen

April 14, 2015 by Luke Owen

With the original Ghostbusters movie, there was never a specific “leader” of the group, though we’re supposed to follow Peter Venkman as the ‘everyday man’ who also happens to know about the science as well. And it seems as though a similiar dynamic will be present in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot, but there will also be a clear, defined “leader” here.

“It’s an ensamble, but you need to have that… you need that one person who leads you into the group,” he told IGN. When asked if that was Kristen Wiig, Feig replied with, “yeah”.

However he also adds, “but Mellisa is the sort of leader of the group. But everyone will be equal. I just love deep events like this. Everyone of those women is so strong and so funny – and the hard part is giving everyone enough stuff. Unless you want a three-hour long movie!”

When asked about the Channing Tatum Ghostbusters movie, Feig reiterated that it will have nothing to do with his reboot. “They have nothing to do with us,” he said. “That was a real surprise when that news came out. We’re just doing our thing, and I can’t let this affect me. I don’t even know how real it is, I just care about my four ladies.”

In a previous interview, Feig compared his reboot to The Walking Dead in terms of scares and design. When asked about the look of his movie and the ghosts, he replied, “one of the reasons I wanted to reboot was that we could set our own rules about how things look, how they come out, how they evolve – and a lot of our thought has been going into the logic of all that. ”
