Ron Perlman urges fans to help get Hellboy III made

June 7, 2015 by Gavin Logan

It’s been seven long years since Ron Perlman donned the red face paint, shaved horns and dusty, leather trench coat in Hellboy II: The Golden Army but the actor still hasn’t given up on a third movie getting made. Perlman recently sent out a tweet urging fans to help get Hellboy III trending and claimed that “we earned it!”

It’s no secret that Perlman has been trying to get a third movie made pretty much ever since the second one came out way back in 2008. Hellboy is probably Perlman’s best and most loved role of his entire career and it’s obvious he still thinks that with plenty of fan support Hellboy III might be in with a chance.

He isn’t the only Hellboy cast member who wants to see the trilogy complete. Co-stars Doug Jones and Selma Blair – who played Abe Sapien and Liz Sherman – also took to Twitter in reply to Perlman’s initial tweet:

Last year Guillermo Del Toro admitted during his Reddit AMA that he would love to complete the trilogy but that money was the issue, “Creatively, I would love to make it. Creatively. But it is proven almost impossible to finance. Not from MY side, but from the studio side.”

The director even revealed plot details he was working on for a third movie if it were to ever happen, “The idea for it was to have Hellboy finally come to terms with the fact that his destiny, his inevitable destiny, is to become the beast of the Apocalypse, and having him and Liz face the sort of, that part of his nature, and he has to do it, in order to be able to ironically vanquish the foe that he has to face in the thirdrd film. He has to become the best of the Apocalypse to be able to defend humanity, but at the same time he becomes a much darker being. It’s a very interesting ending to the series, but I don’t think it will happen.”

It seems absolutely nuts in this day and age that a studio isn’t interested in making Hellboy III especially with the all the hype surrounding comic-book movies these days. But who knows, maybe Perlman can help make it happen. It’s been proven before that if enough fans want to see it then there’s always a chance.

Do you want to see Hellboy III become a reality?
