Margot Robbie on losing out on Sue Storm in Fantastic Four, and Jared Leto’s Joker

August 26, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Next year Margot Robbie is set to give a big screen debut to the fan favourite DC character Harley Quinn in Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad, and speaking to Daily News, the Australian actress has revealed that she had previously been under consideration to play Susan Storm in 20th Century Fox’s box office bomb Fantastic Four – a role she eventually lost out on to Kate Mara.

“I didn’t really resonate with the script, and I haven’t seen the movie, so I don’t really know how it turned out different from the page,” states Robbie. “But I had a great meeting with the director [Josh Trank] and I really enjoyed that. I guess it’s part of the game: sometime you win some, sometimes you lose some.”

Given the reception to Fantastic Four, I guess this one can be chalked up as a “win”.

Meanwhile, the actress also shared a few words on Suicide Squad co-star Jared Leto’s performance as the Joker, stating that: “What he’s doing with the character is so cool… At first it was kind of confronting (to be up close , but now I’m so used to it, I think if I ever saw him out of makeup now I would be really confused. Actually, I saw him out of makeup once and I was actually petrified of him. I was too scared to go up and didn’t know who that person was, and when he got back into his makeup I was far more comfortable.”
