Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation tops the UK box office

UK box office top ten and analysis for the weekend of Friday 31st to Sunday 2nd August 2015…

Tom Cruise returned to the top of the UK box office this past weekend, with Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation claiming first place with an opening haul of £5,351,344.

Despite claiming top spot, Rogue Nation couldn’t overtake the opening weekends of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (£8.19) and Mission: Impossible III (£5.38), although it did nudge out Mission: Impossible II (£4.6) and the 1996 original (£4.2 million).

Elsewhere, the only other newcomer to crack the top ten was the Reese Witherspoon / Sofia Vergara action comedy Hot Pursuit, which earned £311,673 to claim seventh place.

3. Southpaw – £1,129,608 weekend (2 weeks)

5. Minions – £1,007,186 weekend (6 weeks)
6. Jurassic World – £455,645 weekend (8 weeks)
7. Hot Pursuit – £311,673 weekend (New)
8. Secret Cinema presents Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back – £295,275 weekend (9 weeks)
9. Ted 2 – £285,385 weekend (4 weeks)
10. Bajrangi Bhaijaan – £191,612 weekend (3 weeks)

20th Century Fox’s reboot of Fantastic Four arrives in UK cinemas tomorrow, while Friday’s newcomers include Max, The Gift, Marshland, The Diary of a Teenage Girl and Manglehorn [read our review here].
