Warner Bros. planning King Kong vs. Godzilla vs. Pacific Rim?

September 15, 2015 by Luke Owen

Following the news that Kong: Skull Island was moving from Universal to Warner Bros. with the studio planning a remake of 1962′ King Kong vs. Godzilla, a new rumour has surfaced that they’re planning on bringing Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim into the mix as well.

Bloody Disgusting are claiming that Warner Bros. are planning on using their acquisition of Kong: Skull Island to build a Shared Kaiju Universe that will culminate in both King Kong and Godzilla featuring in the yet-to-be-announced Pacific Rim 3. Production of Del Toro’s Pacific Rim 2: Maelstrom is set to start in November, while Gareth Edwards won’t be starting on Godzilla 2 until he’s finished with Rogue One, A Star Wars Story. The plan, for now, is for Godzilla 3 to be a remake of King Kong vs. Godzilla in order to lead into Pacific Rim 3. So the order would be:

  • Pacific Rim
  • Godzilla
  • Kong: Skull Island
  • Pacific Rim 2: Maelstrom
  • Godzilla 2
  • King Kong vs. Godzilla
  • Pacific Rim 3

Now keep in mind, this is purely a rumour at the moment and BD aren’t offering any sources or citation, so take this with a pinch of salt. Del Toro has suggested in the past, however, that there is room for Godzilla to show up in the Pacific Rim world saying, “I would love to see a Jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain.”
