The Soska Sisters to remake David Cronenberg’s Rabid

February 28, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Soska sisters Jen and Sylvia Soska (American Mary, Dead Hooker in a Trunk) have signed on to direct a remake of David Lynch’s classic 1977 horror film Rabid, Variety has revealed.

The original film starred Marilyn Chambers as a woman who undergoes a surgical operation after a motorcycle accident and develops a phallic stinger used to feed on people’s blood, infecting her victims with a disease than turns them into rabid zombies.

“The work of David Cronenberg is legendary, and Rabid is much more than just a horror movie,” states the Soskas. “The real message of his film is powerful, and even more pivotal as we look at the world around us today. It’s an honor to be involved in this love letter to his original, which we handle with the same respect as Paul Schrader’s Cat People, Alexandre Aja’s The Hills Have Eyes and John Carpenter’s The Thing.”

The Rabid remake is being produced by John Vidette, Paul Lalonde and Michael Walker, who also intend to launch the property as an original TV series.
