Yesterday we brought you the news that Captain America: Civil War had crossed the $700 million mark at the worldwide box office just twelve days after it started rolling out around the globe, and now the film has pushed its takings to $737.8 million, overtaking the $714.4 million haul that Captain America: The Winter Soldier made during its entire run.
Civil War is now the highest-grossing chapter of the Captain America franchise, which isn’t too much of a surprise considering its pretty much an Avengers movie. It’s also the fifth biggest instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe behind Guardians of the Galaxy ($773.3 million), Iron Man 3 ($1.215 billion), Avengers: Age of Ultron ($1.405 billion) and The Avengers ($1.519 billion).

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
