Jon Favreau developing live-action The Lion King for Disney

September 28, 2016 by Gary Collinson

After bringing The Jungle Book to the big screen earlier this year, Jon Favreau is set to team up with Disney once again for another live-action adaptation of the 1994 animated classic The Lion King.

The official Walt Disney Company website states that the reimagining of the film is being put on the fast track to production, and like The Jungle Book, will include songs from the original animated film. As yet, there’s no word on a potential release date, nor whether it will arrive before the previously-announced sequel to The Jungle Book, which Favreau is also attached to direct.

The Lion King is one of the most successful animated films of all time, grossing $968.8 million worldwide, and winning two Academy Awards for Best Original Song (‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’) and Best Original Score.
