Ben Affleck backtracks on The Batman title reveal

October 7, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this week during a promotional interview for his new movie The Accountant, Ben Affleck stated that his upcoming Dark Knight solo movie would be using the title The Batman, but now he’s backtracked on that, and said “there is no Batman movie happening yet.”

“It’s been around for a long time, the movie… there is no Batman movie happening yet, we’re still trying to figure it out, you know, get the script and budget and all that stuff.” Affleck tells E! News (via Batman-News). “And someone said, ‘what are you calling it?’ and I had said, like, back when we were promoting another movie, I was like ‘we don’t have a name for it, we’re just going with The Batman or Batman movie’, and I said that, and everyone was like ‘Affleck announces the title of his Batman movie.’

Time-Warner’s CEO Jeff Bewkes revealed a couple of weeks back that Batman is “a year and a half out”, so given Affleck’s comments on the status of the movie, it now seems certain that Bewkes was referring to the start of production, rather than a release date.
