Escape from New York remake is actually a prequel

December 3, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Well, it turns out that 20th Century Fox’s remake of Escape from New York isn’t actually a remake after all, but rather a prequel to John Carpenter’s 1981 cult classic, which the studio is hoping to use to relaunch the franchise similar to what they did with 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

According to The Wrap, Luther creator Neil Cross has delivered his first draft of the screenplay in October, which is said to follow Colonel Robert ‘Snake’ Plissken on a mission to apprehend Thomas Newton, the playboy heir to an agrochemical and biotech corporation, and the villain of the film.

Furthermore, the film will take place in a world in chaos, where one in every seventy five human begins is now either a refugee. However, rather than a maximum security prison, New York remains a breaktaking city of towering glass structures, controlled by an AI called April.

Are you excited about the prospect of an Escape from New York prequel? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…
