xXx: Return of Xander Cage blows up the box office with $70 million worldwide

January 23, 2017 by admin

It seems like it was a worthwhile return, as Vin Diesel’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage had a fairly good weekend at the box office.

The film delivered as expected domestically, earning $20 million from 3,500 screens to take second place behind Split. In terms of the franchise, it’s not exactly the $40 million opening earned by 2002’s xXx, but it’s a lot better than xXx: State of the Union‘s $12 million. It’s also Vin Diesel’s best opening for a film that isn’t part of The Fast and Furious or Marvel Cinematic Universe franchises since 2005’s The Pacifier.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage performed much better internationally, where it topped 32 of its 52 markets, earning an another $50 million worldwide.

The third explosive chapter of the blockbuster franchise that redefined the spy thriller finds extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora’s Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments. Packed with the series’ signature deadpan wit and bad-ass attitude, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage will raise the bar on extreme action with some of the most mind-blowing stunts to ever be caught on film.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage is set for release on January 19th in the UK and January 20th in the States and stars Vin Diesel, Samuel L. Jackson, Ruby Rose, Deepika Padukone, Nina Dobrev, Toni Collette, Tony Jaa, Rory McCann, Michael Bisping, Nicky Jam, Neymar Jr., Kris Wu, Donnie Yen and Ice Cube.
