Common still interested in playing John Stewart in Green Lantern Corps

February 2, 2017 by Robert Kojder

While doing interview rounds for the quickly approaching John Wick: Chapter 2, IGN asked rapper Common if he was still intrigued by potentially playing the role of John Stewart in Green Lantern Corps, despite his minor role in last year’s Suicide Squad.

“I haven’t spoken to DC,” said Common. “John Stewart, the character, is amazing. When I had the opportunity of potentially being John Stewart, when we were working, I learned how he was part of the Green Lantern Corps and all that he was doing. He was kind of community-driven so I felt like, ‘Oh, man, I love this character.’  He used his mind to do a lot of things so I connected with him. I just love the character, but I don’t know, I haven’t talked to DC about it but, you know, hey! Yeah, I would love [to]. That would be an honor to play John Stewart.”

Common isn’t the first actor to express an interest in playing John Stewart, with The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and upcoming Black Panther star Sterling K. Brown having also thrown his hat into the ring.
