Matthew McConaughey joins Harmony Korine’s stoner comedy The Beach Bum

February 7, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey has signed on for the lead role in stoner comedy The Beach Bum, the latest film from Spring Breakers writer-director Harmony Korine, which “follows the hilarious misadventures of Moondog, a rebellious and lovable rogue who lives life large.”

“In The Beach Bum, Harmony has crafted the perfect movie for our dark and serious time — a refreshingly original, irreverent, and hilarious stoner comedy that only he could create,” said John Lesher of LeBrisbi Productions, who will serve as producer. Production on the film is slated to get underway in July.

McConaughey can currently be seen in cinemas in Gold, and will next appear in the Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower, where he plays the villain The Man in Black alongside Idris Elba’s Roland Deschain.
