The CW grants pilot order to DC TV series Black Lightning

February 3, 2017 by James Garcia

Following last week’s news that production on Greg Berlanti’s newest DC Comics adaptation Black Lightning could begin in March, we now have official word that a pilot has been ordered by the CW.

The series was originally given a pilot commitment from Fox, which houses DC Comics shows Gotham and Lucifer. However, news broke last night that the series could be moving to the CW, home to all of Berlanti’s “Arrowverse” shows, Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. Fox felt the series wouldn’t fit well within its stable of drama series, which includes an upcoming X-Men pilot to be directed by Bryan Singer.

The Black Lightning pilot will be written by husband and wife duo Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil, whose previous credits include The Game and Being Mary Jane. They will executive produce alongside Berlanti and Sarah Schechter. The show will follow Jefferson Pierce, an electricity-wielding metahuman who, “having hung up his suit years prior, will be pulled back into the superhero life after his daughter starts fighting for justice.”
