Deadpool 2 screenwriters explain why Zazie Beetz was cast as Domino

March 25, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Despite the rumour sites bringing up virtually every actress in Hollywood as potential candidates for Domino in Deadpool 2, the role of the assassin has gone to relative newcomer Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), and during an interview with IGN screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese explained why she was the ideal candidate for the part.

“She, you know, in the read and in the test she went toe-to-toe with Ryan and that’s not an easy task, he’s such a brilliant actor,” said Wernick. “She kept pace with him and that’s reason enough to see how that plays out over the course of the next movie and franchise.”

“There’s this very wonderful alchemy that happens when an actor starts to read the lines that we came up with,” added Reese. “She just really sparked, and it really just flew off the screen. I think that we now will be able to write with her voice in mind more, which always helps too.”

Deadpool 2 will see David Leitch (John Wick) taking over directing duties from Tim Miller, with Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapicic (Colossus) and Karan Soni (Dopinder) returning to the cast alongside Zazie Beetz (Atlanta) as Domino.
