Kevin Feige suggests the Cosmic Universe will play a big role in the MCU after Phase Three

April 29, 2017 by Gary Collinson

With Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 now rolling out in cinemas around the globe, Marvel chief Kevin Feige has been fielding plenty of questions about the studio’s upcoming plans for the MCU, and what we can expect once Phase Three draws to a close after Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.

Feige has already stated that we may see an end to ‘Phases’ in favour of “a new thing”, and now speaking to Fandango he has suggested that the ‘Cosmic Universe’ could come to the forefront:

“I think it’s a little early to know what it’s going to look like, I think things are going to look very different at that point, but I think the early discussions we’ve had with James Gunn about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and beyond with what we’ll call the ‘Cosmic Universe’ and the Guardian characters is very exciting. Which is why he signed up and we announced that even before Guardians Vol. 2 came out. As you know from the comics, there are so many places to go and so many more characters, and there are a few characters hinted at in the tag scenes of Vol. 2. All of which could be potential to see and explore more in the new age following our big Avengers films.”

If you’re yet to see the film, and you’re wondering characters are hinted at in the end credits of Guardians Vol. 2, you can find out here.

So far, the only post-Phase Three movie we know about for certain is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, although it would be a surprise if we don’t see Doctor Strange 2, and presumably sequels to Black Panther and Captain Marvel assuming both prove successful at the box office. But, as Feige states, the cosmic side of the Marvel universe also opens up plenty of possibilities, and it will certainly be interesting to see how this impacts the ‘New Age’ of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
