Sean Gunn says Avengers: Infinity War has more CGI characters than Guardians of the Galaxy

June 2, 2017 by Gary Collinson

In addition to portraying the Ravager Kraglin, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn’s brother Sean Gunn provides the on-set motion capture performance for Rocket Raccoon, a role he’s providing once again for next year’s Marvel superhero epic Avengers: Infinity War. And, during an appearance at Heroes & Villains FanFest in London this past weekend, Gunn spoke about his work on Infinity War, revealing that it features more CGI characters than we’ve seen in the Guardians movies.

“I can tell you that the process for Rocket has been very similar to the Guardian movies,” said Gunn. “If anything, it’s even more painstaking, because there are even more CGI characters around. In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Baby Groot was there the whole time, but the rest of the time was mostly with other live actors. In Avengers, there are several other characters who are CGI enhanced that I’ve interacted with, which makes the process a little more deliberate.”

Gunn was also asked about the future of Kraglin, replying that: “As far as Avengers goes, I couldn’t comment on that. And in regards to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, I don’t know. I don’t even think it’s been decided yet.”

As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.

Avengers: Infinity War opens on April 27th 2018 in the UK and May 4th 2018 in the US and will feature an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax), Bradley Cooper (Rocket), Sean Gunn (Rocket) Vin Diesel (Groot), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Pom Klementieff (Mantis), Sean Gunn (Kraglin), Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector) and Peter Dinklage and Terry Notary in unconfirmed roles.
