Stranger Things season 2 to show restraint with its monsters

June 7, 2017 by Samuel Brace

Stranger Things will have a restrained approach towards handling its monsters in season two.

One of last year’s surprise hits is due to return this Halloween for a second season, and the two men behind the show, the Duffer Brothers, have spoken about the direction and approach that will be shown towards next season’s monsters.

Speaking to Variety in a recent interview, Ross Duffer spoke about being more subtle this time around.

“The point is not to give everyone what they think they want. Because I don’t think they really know what they want. Hiding the monsters can be more effective than seeing them, so restraint can be a good thing. I can’t talk too much about them, but they’re cool.”

This is certainly the smart approach, and everything is scarier before you get to see it full on, so it will be interesting to see how next season’s scares compare to the first.

During the same interview, Matt Duffer also commented about the chance of seeing fan favourite character Barb when the show returns.

“There’s no resurrecting Barb. It was really surprising how much she took off. I related to her, so I think other people did as well.”

Stranger Things will return on October 31st.
